Employer Information
At Oxclose Community Academy we strive to give students many encounters with employers so they can broaden their horizons and gain an insight into the ever changing business landscape.
Every student should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes, and should include students’ own part time employment where it exists.
- Every year, from the age of 11, pupils should participate in at least one meaningful encounter* with an employer.
- Every year, alongside their study programme, students in colleges should participate in at least two meaningful encounters with an employer. At least one encounter should be delivered through their curriculum area.
- Colleges should record and take account of students’ own part time employment and the influence this has had on their development.
*A ‘meaningful encounter’ is one in which the student has the opportunity to learn about what work is like or what it takes to be successful in the workplace.
Sarah Tishler from Simpson Group is our Enterprise Advisor:
We work with many different local employers on many different event/activities. Each academic year we:
- Run 'Employer Insight' Assemblies for all year groups
- Organise Mock Interviews for Year 10 students
- In October of every year we have a Careers Fayre for all year groups
- Year 10 take part in Work Experience in June/ July
- Information Evening for Year 11 and their parents
- All year groups take part in University activities and some visit University Campus's in person.
- Year 10 students take part in Taster Days at local colleges and 6th Form's.
- Some businesses such as Equans, Simpson Group and ESH carry out Industry awareness sessions and offer hands on activities to different groups of students.
- ASK - work with students around Apprenticeships and carry out CV and application workshops.
We are always on the look out for new employers to enrich the lives of students and broaden their horizons by offering different opportunities.
We also welcome support from businesses that would bring our school curriculums to life, so students can see the purpose of all the subjects they study in later life. If your business could support Oxclose Community in any way that will help our students please contact Mrs S. Reid at reid.s@oxclose.net. We'd also love to hear from our Alumni.
